What’s New in Wee Scotland for 2008?
This year, our young tourists will go on another great Scottish adventure!
They’ll be greeted at the entrance by “Nessie” the Loch Ness Monster, then enter the registration office to pick-up their passports and travel guides.
Once inside Hadrian’s Wall, our young lads will choose a sword and shield from Glasgow’s Ole Blacksmith Shop and paint their faces in true Scottish warrior fashion before moving on to the Rob Roy Wrestling Tent. Here, young warriors will learn the centuries old sport of Scottish Backhold Wrestling.
Young lasses will spend part of their afternoon in the Glasgow Green Hair Salon and Wedding Shop having their hair styled, then crowned with their very own wedding thistle tiaras (courtesy of Snip Its). Next, our young ladies can visit the Glasgow Makeup House where they can choose from a collection of beautiful face painting designs created by area face painting artists.
At the King’s College 2008, our young travelers will learn a bit about the art of stained glass making, courtesy of Foothills Art Glass Company. Lads and lassies will hear about the majestic Scottish churches like the grand Church of Scotland, St. Mungo's Cathedral, in Glasgow, and other landmarks whose stained glass works attract visitors from around the world.
Of course the Not-so-heavy Athletic Games Arena will hold the usual Wee Caber Toss, Sheep’s Toss, Rubber Hatchet Throw, and Stone Carrying – followed by the Kid’s Kilted Mile. All expertly set-up and managed, thanks to the Greenville County Recreational District.
The Wee St. Andrew’s Golf Course will be open for business, along with the incredible Sgurr Dearg climbing wall, and the Scottish Battle Field bounce house, slide and obstacles course.
After a day of exhausting fun, our tourists can cool off under our “Robert the Bruce” misting tent (be sure to look for the spider inside), rest in the Garden on Glasgow Green while watching the stage performances and contests, and purchase kid-friendly meals provided by Chick-fil-A and Pepsi at Glasgow Green’s newest eatery, Bothy Restaurant.
Bring your “Wee Ones” on June 7th for a day of fun and adventure, as they tour, play and learn about Scottish tradition at Wee Scotland, 2008. Be prepared; they won’t want to leave, and they will be armed with swords, shields, and rubber hatchets!
